Bio

I'm a VP of Engineering at Intercom, where we are building Fin, the #1 AI agent for Customer Service. Previously, I was Principal Engineer at Soundwave before its acquisition by Spotify. I hold Computer Science degrees from Trinity College Dublin (B.A. Mod 2004, MSc. 2005) and also worked as a Software Engineer at AWS and SIG. For a while, I taught CS Foundations at Technical University, Dublin.

Focus

At Intercom, I'm working on data foundations, APIs, and interoperability across both Fin and our Customer Service platform. My engineering teams are also focused on our transition to outcome-based pricing for Fin. Outside of work, I spend time staying current with AI and building small, sharp tools with Claude. I believe in keeping things simple and pragmatic.

Collaborating

If you're working on a specific problem I may be able to help. On the technical side, my expertise spans distributed systems, data foundations, and APIs. I've led several large-scale migrations of mission-critical systems. On the people side, I manage large engineering teams and am deeply interested in how to effectively hire, retain, and drive high performance in individuals and teams.

Personal

I live in Dublin, Ireland, where I grew up inside the two canals making me a 'True Dub' or 'Jackeen' depending on who you ask. In my first week at University, I pledged allegiance to Queen Elizabeth and became a 'West Brit' to most. In pursuit of more labels, I moved my family to San Francisco for a while. I have a special affinity for the Bay Area, which remains close to my heart. I have teams in SF and try to spend as much time there as I can. I'm a Dad to Joshua and Abigail and a husband to Claire.
